Just so you know...

I am working on a new post, but at this time there are a few computer issues to deal with.

As soon as everything has been resolved or I get to another computer, I will put up a new topic for discussion.

Thank you to everyone who has signed up to follow this blog, posted comments and to those who have only checked in to read. There have been visits from all over the United States, Canada, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Finland and also South Africa!

I wish extend my welcome to everyone and hope to hear from you all, about things people are doing for the sake of showing in your area, but also things you may do to keep your horse healthy and produce an incredible looking, well groomed horse.

  1. Awwww CNJ, sounds like good ole Southern Hospitality to me.

I am really enjoying this blog and I love getting tips to make my babies more comfortable and happy.

I do actually have a question for when anyone gets a chance. Two of mine are having problems with chipped up hooves. One is my Percheron and one is my hony. The other two look great. The flies haven't been real bad and it definitely hasn't been dry. I do use hoof oil, but I am thinking they need some type of supplement. What does everyone recommend? Oh, and they aren't lame or anything and have regular farrier work, just looks ugly.

  7. Macs, man.... no Windows for me, EVER.

Hey, how about an entry on sweating - like Sleezies, neck sweats, etc.

I feel like there's gotta be a lot of pseudoscience behind it, like the tanning industry, but I don't know enough to make that call.

I do know that a big stallion with a "sweated" skinny neck looks weird, and I hope it just lays the hair down super flat more than anything else....

They are chipping at the bottom only, like when the ground is hard and dry and they are stompin flies, except the ground isn't hard because we have had plenty of rain and the flies aren't bad this year. I was thinking those two might need something added to their diet. The other two are just fine.

  9. CCC..I will see if I can find this recipe i have. I know it's something like"
    12 oz Apple Cider Vinegar
    2 oz Tea Tree Oil
1 oz gentien violet oil (sp)

Mix and use daily..it works wonders. I use springtime for the horses and dogs and love it. Breaking off on the bottoms..that's a weird one..I'm stumped..unless...do they have any sort of "neglect" about a year ago? I ran into a POA that looked like she'd foundered and it was from malnutrition..when that "part" of the hoof grew out it was weak and odd shapen. Any chance that could have happened?

Definitely not a case of previous neglect or health issues for either of them.

I have heard good things about apple cider vinegar, I will give your recipe a try.

    Thanks.

  13. Well the computer issues have been resolved to some degree...

CP- I will be posting about the use of sweats, the mfg's may not like what I have to say, but that's their deal...

CCC & GL- hoof care is another good one to mention and discuss, and it will be brought up here as well. After all- No Hoof, No Horse!

On the sidelines of the homepage I have a few links listed. One is for The Natural Angle. LOTS! and LOTS! of information to be had there! I have invited them over to discuss hoofcare and shoeing information as well. We can all stand to learn from those who know.

What can come from that other than GOOD?
