Winds of change

I will admit that after our ride last weekend, I weenied out and haven't gotten back on my mare yet. In her tantrum and my not so graceful efforts of staying on her, I took a few lumps and was paying for it the next day. Last year I had torn the piriformis muscle in my left cheek and now I felt almost as if I had done the same to the right side. Yeah, it didn't feel good. I don't know if it was hitting the back of the saddle on one of her bucks, having my cell phone in my pocket or both, but dang. The pain has gone away so I don't think there's any major damage done. I had also planned on driving Kat on Sunday, but life gets in the way and that didn't happen either.

I had planned on trying to ride and drive again this weekend, but again, neither one happened. Perusing the blogs I found out my one neighbor was going to a Stock horse clinic a short trip away. She is also a blogger and talking to her about it, it sounded like fun and I was going to watch. I had also found out that another fellow blogger was going to be in town AND at the clinic.

Brown Eyed Cowgirls was down this time last year for a rodeo and we had tried then to get together. It all fell through and didn't happen. Such is life with horses sometimes. Friday night we all went out to dinner. It was a lot of fun. I know some of you hold to the thought of "Pic's or it didn't happen" and the three of us had intended to get at least a few, but we got to yakking and lost in conversation. We were the last to leave... I guess we will just have to do it again and get some the next time around. Lol

I was late heading out to the clinic since Kat needed his feet trimmed and if I am going to drive him, better do it now than wait until later. Since the farrier was dropping by to check my work, I couldn't exactly blow it off. Since I had Kat out, he also got clipped and looks like a respectable pony again, rather than his little punk self sporting a Mohawk instead of a bridlepath. By the time The girls and I were ready to go, it was lunch time. Where does the day go?

I had missed the dry work in the morning, but there was still work on the flag and then cattle work to watch. The girls were thrilled with the cows and spotted a few that looked like our Betsy girl, only these were sans horns. I did manage to get some video of both BEC's and Cindy working their cows. I will have to upload it and put it on the blog. They both did well and there were improvements made by tweaking a few things here and there. The whole group was fun to watch and seem like a friendly bunch. Maybe I can get the WB mare to the point where we can change it up, put on our western gear and go play with cows. There's an idea for cross training!

  2. LOL...I was pretty thrilled with the buckskin. Maybe he looks gawd-awful on video, but he felt like he was getting into it and trying. Can't ask for more than that. :-)

I actually have several events down on that side of the valley this year starting in Feb.; rodeos at Apache Junction and Queen Creek and a barrel race in Mesa. Then in May, I'll be coming through on my way to Globe (I think it's Globe), so who knows, I might lay-over for a night and hang with you ladies again. :-)
